College Football Conference Realignment: A Look at the 2024 Landscape

Major Changes on the Horizon

The college football landscape is set to undergo major changes starting in the 2024 season, as several schools have announced moves and changes to their conference affiliations. These moves will impact the power structure of the sport, with some conferences gaining strength while others face challenges.

Power 5 Conference Standings

The Power 5 conferences – ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, AAC, Pac-12, and SEC – will see significant changes in the coming years. One of the most notable moves is the addition of Army to the American Athletic Conference (AAC) in 2024. This move will further strengthen the AAC and increase its competitiveness within the Power 5 ranks.

Conference Expansion and Realignment

Beyond the Army move, several other schools have announced plans to join different conferences. With the addition of six schools from Conference USA, the American has become one of the largest conferences in the country. Other conferences have also made moves, with the Big 12 adding BYU and UCF, and the Pac-12 adding UCLA and USC. These expansions will undoubtedly impact the competitive balance of college football.
